PROBA-V, ready to close its eyes

The end of a beautiful mission. When the PROBA-V mission was launched in 2013, we knew that there was going to be an inevitable end to the mission. PROBA-V was one of the last European satellites that was launched without any propulsion, resulting in a decrease in overpass time.

While the operational lifetime of the global PROBA-V mission already ended on 30 June 2020, the vegetation instrument remained capturing the European and African land mass in experimental mode. As already mentioned in previous communications, we sadly have to reconfirm the closure of PROBA-V’s eyes on the 31st of October 2021.

However, there is good news as well. We still have new datasets coming up in 2022! We are reprocessing the entire global PROBA-V archive (16 October 2013 – 30 June 2020) as we speak. This Collection 2 dataset will contain quite some important product and quality upgrades. More details about this reprocessing campaign can be found on the PROBA-V website.
